What is known about the market
- Listings are often dead, recycled, or invalid. Buyers pay and get nothing usable.
- Exit scams are common. A platform takes bitcoin, closes, and returns under a new name.
- Chain analysis firms map payments. Indictments have followed from those traces.
- Operators have been arrested and servers seized in the US, UK, and EU.
- Card network rules void charges tied to stolen data. Issuers reverse them.
- Some sites are run by law enforcement as stings.
The size of unreported loss is not known. FBI IC3 and FTC complaint data list carding and crypto payment fraud among the top reported categories each year.

Call your issuer, freeze the card, review statements, and file a report at IdentityTheft.gov. In the US you can also file with the FBI IC3.
